February depths

February felt like the deepest dark of winter here. We were so wanting spring. But we were cold and frosty here in Kitchener. It seems that no one likes February and being dead of winter we are dreaming of blue skies. But there is a beauty to the winter and these last leaves hanging on in the dusk, caught my eye

There is something about these hangers on, that are just comforting!
They are keeping you company in a way through the long winter

These evenings the light is so beautiful as the sun goes down.
I also really like the glowing line around the houses and those street lights are fab!
Spot the squirrel nest on the edge of the branch!!!

Out and about and this pond is next to a house and I was lucky to get this shot as we sped past. The perfect line of trees and the long shadow. I also like the wonky fence post.

We were heading for Elora and I had seen this bridge before.
That mirror image is just perfect

Near to it is this weir and the force of the water makes a mist

Very icy on the pathway and although I like a good photo just as much as the next guy,
this was as close as I would go

Damian risked life and limb on the wooded board walk, and I opted for the lumpy frozen ground path

It was a picture perfect day

The Knox church really did look stunning

The stand of trees to the right always makes me want to get a snap and as I wasn't driving I could capture it this time. Evening sun was just in the right place too.

This is the frost evaporating and the vapor misting off the roof in the early morning sunshine

Blue skies really lift the spirit in the winter time

As do unexpected googly eyes ! It makes the tram look quite friendly

These puffy high clouds look like the skim on a surface rather than the sky!

And snow drop extravaganza

This red sky at night was the warning for us that the good days we had had were over

And we got a heavy dusting!

We went to Toronto. This is the Grand Central railway station. The soring architecture quite special

As is the the railway yard with the modern architecture all around

I loved the effect that I managed to accidentally get with this picture. It makes it really look like the sculpture is puffing out the imagined exhaust. I think that this is my favorite this month

I really liked this café we went in. This dusty relic of a candelabra gave a certain atmosphere to the warehouse space.

So the snow carver managed to do something with the snow. He hasn't had much to work with this year but this sea monster was good!

Snow streets and fields

and ice sculptures in town. This is a goldfish

But I thought this carved log was exceptional. The detail!

In winter that strong evening sun is always making these fabulous shadows and this was no exception and that pin prick of light is the moon

and oof we go down to the States and over the bridge between us

Binghamton NY state. Now that's a mural

I really liked this lion face

I thought that this municipal building would have looked better in Paris (although I have never been there, it is more imagined and  Paris Ontario is not the same!) But that verdigris copper around those upper windows is fabulous) As is one of the lions at the front door, there were two of these. Note the tether to the railing

This is the court house, talk about grand

Even the back was impressive

The long thin building had a surprise mural and I even managed to catch a bird in flight above it. Which again is a total accident

All the buildings in down town Binghamton were very grand. Obviously at one time this had been a super important place

New York

the view we had was right down to the Hudson

and onto Times Sq

Gritter dump trucks being used as barriers for the President was in town

Lit up sidewalks

And frozen ponds in Central Park

This one must get more sun. But acted as a perfect mirror of the buildings that shimmered behind

Central Park is rather lovely

There is a lot of art about in New York. This is near the Museum of Modern Art

And we could all do with some of this

I really liked this mural, perfectly illuminated

There was something about the tree in front of this building and the towers behind that look artificial. But this street had such an interesting frontage and all different heights and roof lines

And yes in the very distance to the center of the picture the Chrysler stands

West Chester PA
They had a hippo in the garden!

And spring is here too

Even daffodils!!!

We were once again charging up and I spied this! It was on a lamppost.
Happy St Patrick's Day!!! ( I am a bit late but never mind)
