Ah the summer holidays. It is quite a blessing to have any time out and for our family and Cape May is the place to do this. No I don't sun bath and yes amazingly I do find stuff to do in Cape May for two weeks. Mostly that will be looking at things (the things vary, people watching, wildlife..oh that's the same thing!), talking...favorite past time, reading...this time 5 books! and eating!
So the time passes and we come home but these pictures can keep it alive a bit longer and you can see what family holiday with a rose tinted lense looks like. Don't forget we have a 18 yr old and 14 yr old who as I constantly reminded them not to be potato children are now just a little to high brow to do nothing! I might add that being bored is a challenge and that you can always find something to do even if it is taking a picture of a shadow and yes I did do that!!!
No that isn't some grandpa we found but Isaac reading the local rag as soon as we got there!
Louie our first morning waiting for the toast to pop. This became quite a thing, as we had to be "on it" to make sure the butter melted on the hot toast! Honestly it was a real deal...well to a 14 yr old, the most important thing.
My favorite place is the bird sanctuary just behind the dunes at Cape May and they have purple martin boxes.
The lads!
Bull Rushes or as Louie tells me Cat's Tails...both work for me. The sanctuary being marshy has lots.
And dragon flies
The tiniest hardest to spot brown frogs...oh wow I just realized that they are the speckled frog from the nursery rhyme song that I loved, once was a speckled frog, sat on a speckled log....etc.!!!!
Ah the lighthouse
More dragon or is it damson fly
Little rabbits and they always hide but got this one
An ibis
Ah ha a Louie!
Fab dragon fly
Isaac and Louie being documentary makers tracking a big beast
"and here you see the beast on the horizon"...that's what he said to the camera
Yes the lesser spotted Damian
Quick run!
He's a shy one that Damian Beast!
Love the reflection of this
Evening stroll and lillies
The promenade
The sun going down and in the far distance a flag
Tractor on the beach raking the sand
Sun has gone
But there are crepes to be eaten
Off for that early morning commune with the sea
But look at that sky and is that a Twitter cloud?
The beach is really special first thing
So is over the marshes
Went for a walk with Isaac and saw these great daises
Totally wonderful porches
Oh and me doing a selfie
That evening Isaac had suggested watching the sunset at the aptly named Sunset Beach...it was like a gathering of the masses. It isn't exactly a secret, the whole deal but I liked the communal feel to it...until they clapped when the sun had finally melted into the sea! I mean come on people, it happens once a day and it doesn't need clapping and it can't do an encore
Isaac's expression at the clapping.....
Great porches in Cape May
Amazing painting of said porches
Wonderful flowers
Brave paint choices
My favorite porch on a different style of house.
Lovely grasses at the nature reserve
Terrapin running away
Osprey
and a graceful swan
The beach was actually windy this day
and thunder clouds loomed
The next day saw this great van
And spotted a chick
Don't know if anyone was in this house
evening on the beach
Crashing waves and great clouds
Love this fold in the wave
Those clouds tell their own story
Love this wave
Boy
This has it all, weather changing and sea churning and lovely Louie
But we do have some energy to burn off
There was leaping
and wave chasing
with contemplation
But the sun was setting and it was time for home
But hang on....that's a dolphin! I never catch them, so this is a rare shot
Big wave
and sun set
The colour was so intense
But this is home time and phone play time
Isaac took this picture
I ran out to get the early firework pictures
Not so good
But you get the idea
Here is the storm coming in...just a mild one
The lifeguard stations are the sentinels of the beach
with some noisy oyster catchers
I did surveillance on boys coming back from the shop
Isaac caught me
This is a candid shot of Isaac multi tasking...reading Count of Monty Cristo and phone checking of words
"honestly dad, am I boring you, or something?"
No just being lovely is seriously hard work!
More early morning
Love this path
Back to the reserve and more dragon flies
Trees and mushrooms
Hiding rabbits
and fab explorer
Boys enjoying a chin wag and leaving us behind in the baking sun
When I spot this! Think it is a black racer snake
and it wasn't that far away!
But he was off on a mission and not going to do us any harm
These birds are always in the same spot every year, they love this jetty!
I love this shadow picture I took one morning walk!
But look at that sky...fantastic
The only day on the beach...hot enough to burn feet
But Louie took it all in his stride
Although the bare foot thing is not enjoyable with 3rd degree burns in the offing...luckily he has a nice brother
Well that's all folks....till next year and the Damian takes the family to Cape May again :)
