July escape

July for us was escape to the Isle of Man. After the longest lock down in the world, we felt the pull of home and although we knew the would be restrictions and maybe not get to see all the people that we would like, we felt it was worth it, even as testing and quarantine awaited. So we packed up and left and the next 6 weeks went in a blur.

Now don't be fooled this is just the beginning the easing in of summer Isle of Man and yes the town has disappeared!

In quarantine we were able to have a walk away from people and so off we went and this is 10pm at night! Very light out

Even the gorse got the memo! wear a mask

The small village at the top of the hill was super spooky and the fog was super thick

All rather desolate, accept for the cat!

Houses just disappeared in front of you

Not a soul about.....

The mist pouring in again, on another evening walk

and up the Hill! Better not get lost and no this isn't the time to walk in the heather

But not long before the sun came out and was glorious!

It felt like an enchanted Isle

Shimmering horizon and lime green seaweed, just blindingly bright and not forgetting the intrepid explorer!

In the near by town they had jollied the streets and these umbrellas I thought it was fantastic touch

All over the small square. Just so unexpected and happy looking

We braved the crowds the day we came out of quarantine. So many people!!!! At our Tynwald Day and there was a special guest

Not that one, that's a dignitary leaving the hill

No this special lady and she is looking right at me! Princess Anne

Lady in turquoise coat was a pain the beep! But this is a another nice shot of Anne (as I like to call her) and her beautiful ensemble

The tent is rather special, for our most special day on the Island and look at that sky! so dramatic

Pigeons swooping over the town where we live

And the lid is being put back on for the night, I suspect rain! I like the little fisher peeps making the most of the day

The bay looks lovely tonight

We went up North to a nature area and birds were a plenty. This one is a curlew. Look at that beak!

And edge walkers

The coast to the Northerly point and you can just about see through the haze the Point of Ayre lighthouse

The dunes and grasses literally hummed with bees!

Over the mountain road the views are magical, this is to the South

And this to the West

And those two specs are dolphins. I couldn't get a closer shot but they gave us a great show! If that stupid lady hadn't stopped to ask if they were Basking sharks! I would have got them closer!!!! I did tell her that of course not ! Basking sharks are the size of a double decker bus!

Ooh train days, I love the train

And this is a beauty

Great old signs. Although this doesn't sound appetizing at all!

And this one is super bossy, although they do try to be nicer in the small print.

Passing trains is super exciting

As is trying to capture an image from the train. The poppies in the field of corn just lovely!!!!

The Mountains of Mourne. These were so visible and often during our stay. They are in Northern Ireland. I drove Damian mad saying I'd never seen them so clear, about a million times!!!

So many views are green and dramatic

I love this one, Gansey Bay and the bushy trees of Kentraugh House. A place we would often stop as children and see the sign above the carriage entry way "Judge not your fellow man's position, until you be in his condition" wise words and from the look of it the estate is big. It is directly in the centre of picture and although it looks calm, those trees bend away from the sea! So sometimes not so calm then!

Oh my, golden fields on top of the Mull and the sweep of the headland of Bradda

And of course a look out on an old lookout!

And this is the view that we spy, the Calf Of Man. A tiny island off the Isle of Man

But going down the hill I'm glad that I am walking! I would never see that sign for the speed limit. Nice fuchsia though

The island has millions of these tiny walk ways and this town in particular! Seriously no passing places here

Oh exciting a fishing boat is going out to sea and the swing bridge is swinging!!!

The sunset shots I could get were amazing and I am trying to limit myself but OMG

Spectacular

Love the painted door and the stone is lovely

This is just before dusk and how golden is that

of course up the road there are cows and there is a camp site next to them. Wow that must smell fresh! as we like to say

And a tucked away cottage with a thatched roof

And this beauty with it's tiny dorma. Super cute

Lovely stone layers like pleated fabric and a glistening sea

And Mediterranean images but this is the Isle of Man

And the moon is up!
And people are playing

I'm going to call this one Sydney!

He certainly wasn't bothered about me. But I was really interested in the evening light and he is just posing! Seagulls are super funny

Fab headland vantage for a picture of Port Erin bay and Port St Mary on the far side.

Getting the lobster pots in

Talk about a mirror! the reflections are almost perfect

Such a pretty view and the cottage behind me has that every day, lucky ducks

Another amazing sunset

And the rooks are literally coming into roost for the night across the road. It is an amazing spectacle and super noisy

The bay is so beautiful and many a night I have to steal down the road for just one last look

The mist rolls through the hills opposite, it will burn off but for now it looks like a stream of mist as it pours in on this morning

The horizon just pulls you in

Just mesmerizing

Feeling creative and stones are for building with. Evening on the beach

There are signs about, letting everyone know that in the pandemic they are fine. Good for them, I lost my mind!!!!! My sign would definitely read send chocolate!!

We decided that we had to find Old Tynwald and off we went. This is where I'm standing and looking out I can see why they choose this spot

Just lovely

And this is the meeting place

The circle has a sign, so we know this is correct

The sign on the circle is 1428, I think!

And this is the sign about the monument, and we figure it is the same age as Canada (only from when European's arrived, we know that this too is an ancient land)

And this is the sign that would put you off from find said Manx heritage!!! If you understand it's meaning please send on a postcard. Honestly we couldn't see the circle from here and this really didn't help us locate it. So Damian ignored it and we found the circle, hurrah!

Another circle but this time it is the burial one and I love the view from here

The limestone pavement as it dips into the sea

Oh and boats can be used as flower pots too you know

Swing bridge and no boats

And an agricultural show in the rain

It was as miserable as it looks but people still braved on

Not all bad on the Island really, with days like these more often than not
and his honey suckle smelled heavenly!!
