And this is Part II

Once the snow looked liked stopping we decided that maybe it would be best to dig out. We all dread the re freeze but it is better to get the worst up..even if the car is staying put the next day. So with that in mind we headed out. By this time it was 7pm...and the grey dark day was falling into night. There were many neighbours out...and it wasn't too cold. Here are some of the pictures from last night.

These are all pictures from my front porch and as you can see the snow got quite thick during the day..Isaac was a the good soul to start the dig the front path....

Louie intrepid explorer goes to the back of the house to check out the drive...look at his snow trousers..they are glowing in the snow!

This is Damian and Louie digging out the drive for me....I also did a fair amount of shovelling...luckily for me and them..it was soft snow. We did have a foot I think.

Then inside for warming hot chocolate and a good nights sleep!

Now onto Bob on the spot! Day two Reporting from Snowy West Chester....

These are Louie's snow prints from yesterday and today they look like a Yeti has been across the garden.

With the sun came some melt and the ice is already hanging off the house. Still with the sun up it is beautiful and not too cold although these guys weren't convinced! It is in the 20's today....

Isaac hasn't shrunk, he just wouldn't stand straight as the sun was too bright..his side kick had the right idea

I decided that they needed a walk to town and to post some letters and this is what we saw along the way.

The blob above is a car and all that snow, is the road!

But once again color is popping and  these two scenes caught my eye. Fab yellow bettle and red garage and barn.

This is Church Street in West Chester and I couldn't believe even at 10.00am this morning how snowy it was and there would have been snow ploughs and treatment down....but the big truck hurtling down the road took it in it's stride..

There was more ice and interesting things to see along the way..

Love the little round window and black is a suprisingly good color for red brick contrast.

Drippy ice, spectacular!

This drain pipe is pretty iced up...

I really like this boring shot the blue and white and those icicles cast a great shadow.

This is the back of a restaurant in town and it gets no sun on this wall....but those ice drips and metal bars are fab...lots of lines

Poor alarm bell....looks like a beard of ice

Not sure if you can make this out..but even the traffic lights had some ice on them.
This walk back to the house looks like some forest path in the wilderness. But no the boys have just reached our fence from the front of the house and this is the red brick sidewalk that we're walking on...

Our street looks like such a different landscape with the think eiderdown of snow on it. The sun of course makes all the difference and the blue sky was that intense...

The park as ever looked wonderful and I know you have seen this shot a million times...but with some blue sky and the snow it looks picture postcard.

I really must get out more, so far this is House, Ice, Boys and Park shots!

Snow Day!!!

So what do you do on a snow day, after days of ice and missing your daily walk? Well you go out in a snow storm. OK the use of the word 'storm' is a bit much, 'blizzard' OK that too. Maybe just say that it has been snowing since the early morning and I really needed to stretch my legs. So donning the right gear...surprisingly 34 degrees feels quite warm when you have been having minus temps! So off I went with my fab trusty phone camera and pretended I was a reporter...So here is the real "Bob on the Spot" report from West Chester this morning.

So this is my house in the snow...the red really looks great against the snow...You always think monochrome landscape with snow but that isn't it, really, it is a great contrast.

As I turned around from leaving the house the plough came past. I just managed to catch this.. they will be busy today !!!! The snow has just kept coming

This is the lane I always walk along and how lovely it looks with the red of the barn....colors in snow are so amazing and I managed to find some more on the walk.

This is me in town, half way around the walk.....

The snow was coming so fast at this point and the statues are are cherubs...they look like they are shielding themselves from the wind and snow...

I wasn't the only one who was out...this lady was running...admittedly she was in the middle of the road..not something that I advocate when there is low visibility and snow ploughs about...

You can see from this picture that even though the plough has been...it isn't making much of a dent....

This bench I though looked cool...tubular and line thingey....

This is one of the main roads and visibility is really reduced now. But you may notice the colors of the street furniture still showing....

This is I think should be called 'collage of fences'...

See what I mean about color...this hydrant looks resplendent against the brick backround and his snowy coat

These poor sunflowers are quite bowed by the snow...

This fir tree was a golden green this morning and the snow just was like natures finishing touch

These oak leaves are just so orange in the snowy landscape.

Something about a path with no snowy prints of feet that makes you want to make some!
On my way home I noticed how much snow had fallen in the hour that I was out and my foot prints had once again been covered.

My garden looked so lovely

This was along my fence. I couldn't believe how much snow had fallen in the time since I had left the house

This is a panoramic shot of the front of the house and I do love the shot of color, Red house bricks and green shutters...it does look quite lovely in the snowy morning...

This is the park over the road and I thought this was a nice picture too, The little cabin is a nice focal point and the trees just proudly bearing the winter.

I am in the intersection of my road.....

These next pictures are ones that I wanted to share from a little trip I made to Longwood with Isaac last week.....
I do have a thing about this bench at Longwood, it is the symmetry of the paths and hedge arches I think. It looks so inviting.

We went up one of the tree houses and when I looked out..we saw that someone had left a message in the snow...it was just one of those moments of wonder and surprise and just ah....

So in the winter they keep the fountains on..maybe not to freeze...it was an exceptionally cold day when we were there....

This is for my friend Marisa...I have a fish eye on my mobile and I have wanted to take this tree root for months...so this is the first ever fish eye photo!!!! I took it before we went to the West Coast and forgot about him...but it is quite cool, old gnarly roots.

So there we go, a snow day can be quite productive. Hope you have enjoyed this mundane post. It is literally amazing what we see...and right now I am seeing that the snow has kept going while I've been writing...and we have a whole day of this....maybe I will be leaving by a top storey window when it stops...no just 8 inches they have forecast. Better get that large boy shovelling...
