I know the title is a bit passe but there you go. Louie and I have spent a day in New York. Louie was attending a Tap Festival. He went along to four master dance classes given by top tap dances in a studio in New York. The Big Apple was amazing from the moment we arrived, to an unremarkable building in a block aka the studio. The studio was on the 11th floor of the building. Like a lot of New York buildings, it was old and the space inside was small. The dance studio was really small and once you got 30 teens in there, even smaller and totally stifling ! But the pro that Louie is, he managed and made it through all the classes and I think had a really enriching experience. In between the mid day break we went to a Starbucks and he read his book and got down time and then after the event we walked through to the station via Times Square and he was mesmerized! It was truly magical. We were saved from wrong trains by two random angels that saw us being "tourist hellions lost!" and we learned that Linden New Jersey is an interesting place....We had stayed there over night as classes started early in the morning. But somehow the days were long and we walked over 10 miles just on Saturday!
As for me, I was and am indebted to another dance Mum Joanne and her daughter Faith for them driving us to New Jersey and then accompanying us on the train to New York early Saturday morning. Poor Joanne had to put up with me for well over 24 hours!!!! and managed to deliver us home safe and sound late Saturday night. Thank you a million times! But she learnt that I am an early riser, unfazed by bed bugs, have limited abilities stepping off pavements and I make friends in shops with unsuspecting shop staff and act like a celebrity wherever I go! But on the plus side, I don't complain too much .....she hasn't offered a second trip......
Here is the trip in pictures!
It went dark as we were travelling over the bridge to New Jersey and this is the night sky we were driving away from. The moon was like a slither in the sky and oh so bright.
Arrival at the hotel and thankful to have a nice bed to sleep in
This is the view from the bedroom window and if you look carefully you can see in the River Birch tree there are birds perching...they are the blobs towards the top branches....
Linden New Jersey and Louie waiting for the train. He LOVES trains so this was awesome and it was a double decker!!! A happy boy although the wind was raw and it was just after 8.00am! and we were a bit tired and very nervous.
New York skyline through the train window and I had wanted to take a picture of the water we passed but realised now that water was replaced by a foreground of swaying grass! I like this in all the essence that it gives!
New York!!!!

The Garment district and a tick on Joanne's tick list to see a place call Mood fabrics. As used in the programme Project Runway
But when we did find the building they were doing construction and this was the interior!! I took the stairs! this was the elevator!
But once we got upstairs, wow, rows and rows of material
This is my favorite and I wonder how they control moths in the cashmere darling!
I just took this as it was a cool sign and shows we were in the fashion district of New York Darling

This was a unit in the building of the studio...a shop specialising in flamenco dresses etc. The building also had a recording studio next to it and you could hear a man singing opera....upstairs they have a violin shop and studio and there were racks and racks of violins!!! just so interesting.
Mosaic weird tower block....but just so stark
Lots of construction and a building looking like it was dressed for Halloween in black and orange in the middle of the picture
