April?

I know that it is actually May and I have not done a blog for April, well there is a reason for that. April was dire. I would like to say that's an understatement but we had all 3 seasons in one in April and it was, well, dire. Here is what the month looked like in Southern Ontario.
So of course we had a snow storm.

Heavy wet snow. Spot the bird in the tree?

A bit of icicles

But this is how much snow fell in a matter of hours

But it did start to melt quickly

For me, it was the light. Just a warm soft light. We need to get on with the day and get to school.

Louie and I going to school and the roads are cleared but there was quite a bit of snow still around

But I spied buds

And crocuses, a few days later

This is a bucket on a maple tree!!! Someone has tapped their maple and they will be boiling this down to make maple syrup. I did notice a few around at the beginning of the month, as the sap was rising in the trees. At first I thought they were rubbish bins.!

Ah snow drops, they are lovely!!!

Even these dried flowers looked pretty, anything right now that looks like life! even if it's gone, it is better than dreary winter

Amazing how those leaves hang on

Back to snow drops. Trying to take these babies is tough. I have to spy them, then skip around roads and gardens to take a sneaky pic

Morning light

It's  a super frost

But spring is coming

The buds are bursting

How fantastic are these

Such a happy welcome sight, after the long, long winter

Easter Time and nests made by Isaac and I. Amazingly Cadbury choc is just as yummy melted!!!!!

A different variety of snow drop, with some rain on them

I had no idea what this was and I looked it up and guess what, it's blue snow drops!!!! who knew that

But the colour is awesome, blue snow drops?

Wow, that's a bursting bud. Think it is some type of maple

More of the blue snow drops

and stripy flowers. Which are pretty cool and I looked these up too and, guess what!!! They are snow drops too.

Irises

More buds on trees

These blue snow drops are everywhere

There is even greenery in the town

They planted a bunch of pansies

Really lovely

That gorgeous blue sky

Happy grass and carpet of blue snow drops

Seriously the blue guys are everywhere now

These just seemed like volunteers in someones garden

these fuzzy guys are pretty cool and the blue sky, just a lovely contrast.

The forsythia is out and this is one of my favorite houses. The yellow brick they used here is lovely on these older homes.

The trees fuzzing out really is lovely and the colour matches the red brick perfectly

How cool is this chimney!

Posing Robin.

Even found some pink flowers

These are rather sweet, 3 in a row, blue snowdrops

Me and Louie went on a photo walk and we found more exploding buds.

I thought this was rather a great tree, silver birch I think. It was loaded with these buds.

Stripey flowers (snow drops!! just amazing), which I have to say are rather splendid

They look great in this picture, with the raggedy forsythia in the background and lovely snowdrops in the foreground

Wonderful shutters on a converted factory building and that sky was just perfect

I must have taken a while to do the stencil! Found this on an electric box

Leaves that have hung on! amazing

Little bright flowers, I have never seen anything like this. Like a massive forget me knot

At this point in the month I am just giddy with any colour, now I know these are snowdrops and they signal the beginings of change, I am more than happy to embrace this change. Bring on spring!!!!

Really you realise that here it is a starvation of colour and so when you see it, it is just such a welcome sight

Finally daffodils out in force. How lovely and familiar, even if they are late. Here it seems the perfect time. I cannot believe we are so far into the year before colour arrives

Here's hoping for fair winds and warmer weather. I thought that getting through winter would be bad, little did I know how spring would look. Maybe I should have listened more when people said it is winter followed by the wet season!
