So now I can breathe and tell you Spring has finally sprung in Canada land. Wow was that ever a long and overly anticipated season! We were all done, everyone and frankly, the spring has been a bit weird. Some really cool days and then humid and hot! I keep being amazed that we have had till nearly half way through the year for warmer weather to arrive and the joy of not wearing coats!
I had previously thought that I was obsessed with the weather, not sure what the word is for someone more than obsessed, whatever it is it's like a thirsty person in the desert suddenly having water, that is how spring is here. You are hyper focused on the changes and the incidental shift in the weather and whatever feels like growing. As for colour, well anything is better than black and white and grey....
I hope you enjoy these pictures as much as I enjoyed taking them.
Tulips are my new best friend and I had no idea how interesting this fantastic bulb was!
That would be some fluffy babies and their guardians
Did you know that tulips did this?
some later snowdrops, still hanging around
pansies appear and are so cheery
breathe taking walk along a trail by a gorge
Love the white bark on the trees, so bright against the blue sky
the grass is full of blue!
Trees bursting into life
Just fantastic
Hello sunshine!
A tight knot of leaves
Really super exciting to see all the world around coming to life
The Woods and Water
Found the most lovely lake
and walk through another wooded area
Truly a beauty. That reflection is crazy good!
Like a mirror
But flowers everywhere at this wooded retreat
These were wild in the woodlands and the most delicate shade of mauve
Evidence of a beaver!!!!!
The dark mass under the water was lots of tiny fishes, 100's
Just such a quiet tranquil spot and minutes from where I live. (Love those dogwoods)
Swampy water
Even spied this feller, once I got over the shock of seeing it
Turtles sunning themselves
and lovely flowers by the waters edge
Truly a nature paradise.
Incidental flowers
This weeping cherry is just starting to blossom
I am now officially hunting tulips
Look at that for springiness!
Bobble headed tulips
This was one wet morning and the colour was so vibrant
Ranks of daffodils appear in gardens
Some lone friends
More wonderful tulips
In Victoria Park early morning
Just so still and peaceful
This magnolia in the park was coming into full glory
The sky was just filled with these absolutely stunning cloud formations
This star magnolia really was just perfect
I mean truly, that's perfect right there. The silky leaves and the light shining through. This really captured that early morning glory
I could imagine just sitting on that bench all day
The clouds looked painted into the sky
This doesn't look real and at the time it didn't either
Found a chattering black squirrel in a tree
First day out to Lake Huron and the weeping willow was just divine in lime green early budding splendour
Lake Huron
and yes the cold came off the lake! Bracing!
Fiddle headed ferns in woodland and who knew they taste of a cross between spinach and asparagus... apparently they are a delicacy. I say winter drove people crazy and they saw green and ate it! So naturally I have not eaten them but I'm told they are delicious.
The Tulip Story
These tulips outside the house have been truly amazing in their development....
This is how they started.
They grow even taller
Develop orange edges
Turn flippin orange!!!
Follow the sun all day
Close at night and look stripey orange
Really!!! they were yellow
Close over so completely
and then one last blast and they're done!!!!
That my friends is the life of a tulip and I had no idea that all happened. I just thought they had bobble head, get knocked down with wind and rain and weren't really worth planting. Well think again! they are stupendous! and my all time favorite flower.!!!!
More blossom
Lovely cheery cherry
Life in full bursting new growth glory
Magnolias are in full bursting
Oh and a cool bit of graffiti
Maples going great guns and by the end of the week leaves are fully out, making a sea of red and green
Early morning light
and Trillium's, the native plant of Ontario
They come in many colours
Yellow orchids
and the Umbrella plant, all these just grow wild, given half a chance and no development and I'm talking property!
This Trillium trail is just magical
This is a Jack in the pulpit plant
and here is his flower
I love this combination of a stripey Trillium and orchid
And the Goose
Goslings are so cute
They really are
Geese babies are getting quite big now, and that is literally a few weeks
More Tulips!
Did you know that tulips do this?
Didn't know they were so full of variety.
Just stunning!!!!
These were literally a drive by and reverse in the pouring rain to get the picture. They are stunning
Magnolia at the end of the blooming time
and more wet weather but beautiful tulips. These were snapped yesterday in the rain, I wonder if they will change colour too?
