I keep saying to anyone who will listen I have nothing to say..........well we all know that isn't quite true. Admittedly I haven't got much family news to report in the way of activities and social engagements but I have been busy. There is of course spring to keep up with. This is seemingly a slow thing and you think that you have time to get the garden/yard ready and then everything starts to burst and grow literally before your eyes! Luckily we have "Lawn Man" here, our super hero of the yard. He is ready and waiting to cut his grass and rid us of weeds. Thank goodness as I would be dead without that help and of course the lawns are looking fantastic and the 'kill and seed' technique really worked well for us. So with all this in mind, last Sunday I decided to tackle the garden and areas that really needed something doing, before the weeds became a forest of massive proportions. I moved some plants and filled 6 wheel barrows of weeds, relocated the bar-b-que and felled a dead pagoda! (which was left for the bin men and has miraculously vanished!). After that I had a sit down. There is of course much more to do but for now we have some areas of work to keep me out of mischief this weekend and roll on Spring!
I have been taking pictures in case the need arose to post them and Spring here in West Chester is just so beautiful I couldn't help myself with the snap of the camera! The blossom is just so pretty and being by the park I get to walk through it every day with Louie, it is hard not to be moved by it. So this is how it is looking these last few days.
Glorious Copper Beech nearly all the leaves are out and it is so hard to capture the deep copper glow of the leaves. They are stunning against a blue sky
so on the way home we took this picture and Louie is in the front and you can see how big the Beech is! It is as big, if not bigger than the house!!!
This is Marshall Sq Park which is just at the end of our block. The cherry trees are just spectacular.
This is the same cherry as above and this is Biddle Street (just LOVE that name)
Master Louie requested this shot and I think he looks quite cute, what a fabulous way to walk home from school.
This is the other corner of the park on Matlack Street and these are some other blossoms that I love, the contrast of the purple to white and the new green leaves are just breath taking.
This is the backside of the same trees.........so lovely.
And now the Dogwoods are in bloom. How special is this!!.
This is Beechy this morning and I think that she has filled in even since the top shot I took. Just so amazing and to all those wondering she seems to be doing really well. All the leaves are out and there are no dead spots. From all the other trees I have seen, ours looks to be in tip top condition. The bark has a little coming away in a small part but I am not too worried as the treatments and soil aerating seem to be helping. It will be a long process to help this tree. The treatments seem to be good.............what do I know. I just hope and enjoy this glorious specimen while I can. Having been planted in 1876 looks pretty good to me!
I do have one mention to make and that is to Isaac's SeaPerch competition last weekend. They did really well building their submarine robot and they came in 8th out of 45 teams. The thing to add here, apart from that is quite an achievement, is that this was their first year competing and (as Isaac keeps telling me.......they beat the Naval Academy..just saying........) so last night after the final wrap up of SeaPerch meetings Isaac came home and drew up next years entry......looks like he's keen then! Well Done Isaac!!!!
Finally this blog would not be complete without Lawn Man's lawn
The object on the lawn is a football/soccer ball..............just so we can prove that kids are allowed to play on the sacred lawns!
