January Winter Proper

The New Year seems a long time ago and with another round of restrictions in place in Canada, it seems like snow and government want us to hibernate. But I have managed to peep outside from time to time and although busy with the shop I did even manage some photos

I find that in winter the dead flowers become a point of colour. Which is rather interesting and they often get snow hats

The bunting left out becomes festooned with snow

It makes for a lovely pop of colour

But this is winter here, shovelling

And blowing. This was a light day!

And here is the shop. We came up with a fabulous idea for the back splash, these old wash boards doing another turn. And opening day!

We unfortunately open as they announce another 3 weeks restrictions, no eating in, no gyms, no cinema, no theatre...you get the idea, no fun. Luck for us we get to open as we are able to shop in reduced capacity..... Not the big fanfare but we do get visitors to the new shop

and we are very proud of all the hard work

So many things that we have done to make the shop look inviting

and the window to show all the wares

I realized on returning to do another run to the shop that the tire tracks make a lovely pair of hearts

At least the sun is still about every now and then to make this time a tad more bearable and of course the lovely colour green

The cats have the right idea and they are almost camouflaged.. or are they starting to count a 0 and a 1

The evening skies can be quite delightful

It's like the tops of the trees have a grey hat

I loved this leaf wrapped around the tulip

Just such perfect flowers. They do get you through winter. The reminder that elsewhere isn't frozen!!!

Even when they have almost finished I have to just make them last a bit longer. Quite amazing flowers really

Our and the all time favorite, the Chickadee. I really thought that this was amazing the light catching the back of his head and the feathers there. Not to mention the hanging on that he is doing, just stella

Hello there! You are a finch? I think that this is a winter version of the goldfinch. Turns out they change feathers in the winter....

Back to the sleek and lovely Chickdee, posing for me and that fantastic profile shot

We went to Stratford and it was amazing, the snow had receded and we got colour

We hadn't seen it this way in winter before

and in Stratford fun on the water...you make your own rink. You scuff off the snow and skate, apparently

Frozen waters

I have seen this so many times on the sides of the road in winter, the dogwood stems. So hard to capture the intensity of the red. But managed it this time, red against the dusty coloured brush

Wonderful horsetails in the sky on the way back

And clear skies...who knew what was next!

Snow actually and a hum dinger, actually started in the night and this is morning, believe it or not! The visibility while it was snowing was greatly reduced.

This is the street outside the house and you can hardly make out the road!

So far this is what fell over night. My snow plower died shortly after this

I decided that I needed to get to the pharmacy on foot... no cars on the road and yes I am standing in a road intersection

The snow had collected on the vine on this wall

I made my way back along this lane, using the tire tracks to walk on....it was a mad escapade. Normally a trip that would be easy 40 minutes walk turned into an hour or so....hard walking in feet of snow...should have taken the snow shoes.

This is  outside my bedroom window and I see this view most days in winter. Snow covered roofs and the Blue Spruce of the neighbors, ladened down with snow. Looks like funny hands. If I am lucky I see little chickadees popping into the tree

Sun setting over the back yards

and here comes the ice time

More shovelings

But there are points of colour inside

and out. You have to look hard to find them and brave a bare hand to take the picture...

But so worth it

Ice sculpture man out did himself

Thank goodness the sun came out

My favorite part of winter, the hangers on. These leaves will stay and stay

This is a river! Yup, snowed covered it seems like a patch of ground

But in the spring once again water will be here

So lucky to have the blue sky. Bitter today, 5 minutes is enough outside, something like -20C

The ice is just amazing to me

The interesting slide of the snow and the ice forming and then the drip

This is an down spout....so water has just about come to a full stop

The heel of the spout looked all dragon like

Have to put this in, yes daffodils inside, a must!

Isaac and I decided that snow shoeing is in order

Bight skies and thick snow

and there are those leaves again rattling in the wind and curiously hanging on

Thank goodness the days I have at the shop are full of colour!

When I can, I love to take the sun catching the tops of branches, it really is a warm glow

Happens in the morning first thing and in the evening, the light is quite special and takes on a hazy glow

Another cold morning but popping through the white streets there is echoes of the summer

Ice off eaves

Benches in the snow. That would be a chilly place to sit

Buried porcupines

Just seems to sum it up, the weather can feel heavy!!!

Early morning...

all is quiet in the street

but slowly the sun comes up and literally illuminates. Just love seeing this

Something quietly magical

The outlined tree trunks shadows. It is so cold, probably can't feel my face any more but looking at the sunshine does make you feel warmer!

It is returning!!!! Just above the roof. I would have stayed out longer but like I said couldn't feel my face any more. Natures botox!
