So the month of March we had all the promise of the last bit of hunkering down, as the end of winter did it's thing and then the hope of the Spring to come. And then of course the actually seeing that Spring and blooms will come. They of course have and the last of the snow has gone and like a dream Winter seems a long time ago. We even have green things now.
With our lockdown and Stay at Home order being a thing here, we have remained pretty local but it is amazing what you see when you look.
This is how it started
Roads clear but still some evidence of the snowy days we had
But I spy magnolia buds
And the most incongruous road work markings, on the snow?!* Clearly they don't expect the snow to melt any time soon, but then how will they dig the frozen ground? A real conundrum
Ah the squirrel nest, as marvel of daring
Oh oh shoots!!!!
I spied this Red Squirrel guy and it was what you can see me....
How about now?
Ok, I'm off you're scary!!!!!
This sparrow was singing his heart out 2 seconds before I took this picture, at the top of the tree and his song was so loud!
OOOH snowdrops. Totally love, love snow drops!!!
They really are beautiful
I think she knows I'm here, that's Archie seeing if now is a good time to jump on Bella from his cardboard boat box... or something like that
And the Maple Syrup buckets are out in force. These are quite fancy
We went down to Niagara on the Lake and we can see America from the shore
Yup that's America! Looks like you could just pop over there
and ice along the shoreline
Really quite spectacular ( this is looking at the American side as well as the shore on the right that is Canada. So a real toofer, both Countries in one shot)
This is Canada Land and shores of Lake Ontario
Such beautiful snowdrops
And crocuses
The Willows go golden at this time of the year and this one in Niagara on the Lake is no exception
It was lovely to be by the water
And there was people yachting.
They made speedy progress
These flowers were everywhere at the lake. It really is several degrees warmer down there
This fort building on the Canadian side is rather cool. I love the rounded corners
Lots of ice along the Canadian side, in the less sunny place that Canada is
The American side looks lovely but they get ice too!
There was an abundance of snowdrops, everywhere I looked in Niagara On the Lake and it really gave us something to look for back home in the coming weeks
As we went through the lock at St Catherine's, the sun was setting and lit up the lock building and the seagulls wheeling in the background was very picture perfect moment. Warm and glowy
That warm glowy sunset lasted quite a way on the way home
There was a morning when I looked out to the bird feeder and saw this juvenile cardinal at the feeder. You can still see his younger plumage
Also saw this neat car in the neighborhood. The sticker definitely ages this one. They love their classic cars up here
The birds just started going bonkers with the singing and this chickadee was really going for it. You might even be able to see I caught him mid sing in this shot
He was making the rounds of the garden
Then down on the old Iris and singing his heart out
Then away we go!
This Blue Jay was also making a lot of noise one day as I walked to town
I caught him mid lift off....wow
Then of course there are a bunch of these guys, Robins (for clarification I will say this is an American Robin!). This is for sure Robin season here. This one is striking a fantastic pose
This crow nearly escaped the my shot. I really like this picture, quite eerie
So out on a walk and I see that someone has lost their glasses. These are prescription ones. Wonder if they will be able to see well enough to fine them!
More beautiful snowdrops in our neck of the woods
And these Hellebore's. They are such a welcome sight
Back to the door thing again and here we have a door onto a flat roof.....why? The roof isn't that big and seriously if the house is on fire that roof would be too...
One of our drives we pass this wooded area and I see that right at the heart of it is a cabin. Managed to take this as we drove past. I bet in the summer it will be completely hidden and you wouldn't even know it was there
Could this be the perfect flower
I think that maybe it is
Not forgetting that other early flower, witch-hazel. I love the straggly flowers
Mrs Cardinal, an absolute favorite
Showing her crest
and about to fly away
This is the Maple blossoms
And our friend, the glorious crocus
I love the carpet effect that this garden has going on
And what about this, the crocus have literally grown through the leaf!!!!
Another sighting of a red squirrel this one was motoring and I was lucky to get this shot, and he was also super high up the tree.
It's funny how the leaves just stay and stay
But that's St Jacobs and on a cold March day and I see they have a new sign they have painted. Super jolly
This is a photo that I bet Louie I could take with the new camera. He said I couldn't and I said of course I can and see the bunny in the moon...
and look at the colour of those clouds, talk about deepest indigo
March is definitely a time for swollen rivers
and see all the white buckets in the woods....Maple syrup
These guys just aren't messing about
Neither are these peeps. All along the drive way of this farm the blue buckets. Had to be quick to take the shot as we flew by
The other admirable thing is the piles of wood that people have
On this drive we were off to Lake Huron and I was looking out the car window at all the sights and the fields were literally steaming. Quite the effect to capture
And this wonderful reflection of trees in this flooded field. A complete mirror image. Also look how green it all is, all of a sudden
The red dogwood twigs are such an amazing colour we get in Winter and it is almost impossible to capture that. But this gives you an idea. The contrast of the grey and soft old grasses with the flash of deep red on the milky white sky. Yup classic Canadian wintery shot
And to the shore of Lake Huron. No ice but an artic blast of wind this day
Certainly would like to fly away like these geese were
On another evening walk, these cheery fellows brighten our day
And people are decorating for Easter, with this lovely Eggs Bunny Wreathe
I thought that these were the most devine colour of crocus
And these variations of snowdrops?
These mini Irises pop up at this time too. They are so exotic
This is brave person planting pansies! The frosts haven't left yet
Rather a dramatic sky
This has to be the favorite picture, an actual drop of Maple Sap!!!!!
The abundance of flowers by the end of March is staggering. Snowdrop season has been immense
Just colour everywhere
For a change I did some architecture pieces and I rather liked this round window and reflection
These wooden decorations in colour
and not. Both rather lovely
By the time March ends we are well underway and thank goodness. We need the sun and flowers and nature to give us some umph to the days, as we head once again into Shutdown.. Thankfully nature provides and I will be out and about clicking away. Happy Spring to everyone!!!!
