At this time of year in Canada you just have to grit your teeth a little. It will be hard here, there will be snow and ice and it might be an event like that every day. That said, getting out in it can be rewarding and also a sense of achievement!!! (I can say all that as I am now officially in March.) But it really is the deepest part of winter and you're never sure you will be able to get through that. That of course was before the Pandemic and various lockdowns and 'stay at home' orders. Of years gone by, now February is easy :)
All that said it is amazing how many blue sky days we had and the variety of colour and life outside the door. Of course inside cats Bella and Archie show how winter is really done here, with lots of relaxing. I hope you enjoy this sample of Canadian winter and check out snow carving man, he was at it again this month.
The grasses in the winter are lovely
Especially on a blue day!
So exciting to see a fuzzy bud! That's going to be an amazing magnolia
Lots of fun sights about town and I loved this stack of coloured ice cubes. They really brightened this birdbath
Help! my names Bella and my legs are stuck! Ok only kidding, I just stuck my front legs under here because I wanted to!
Blue skies
and evening glow
Stark white and black trees. Lovely
Snow storm at night
And troops roped in to clear! Louie and Damian feature in this one
Ah my snowshoe buddy Isaac, slogging up a hill
Just such black and white scenes in February
But what's this? Bella on the phone again!
Break through and I spy blue
Just look how deep that snow is. This was Louie's one and only snow shoe adventure this year
I know this isn't on the scale of the guy that does snow shoe pictures, that said I think these skis have made a nice heart shape. Do you see it too?
But bored bored Bella :(
I love seeing the shadows in the winter. It really does tell you that more light is coming
Thank goodness said Miss Bella, but for now some sleeping
And maybe some telly watching
Ooh lovely red berries
And the first reminder that a special holiday in February is imminent
But first some ice
And the seating area is a little snowed under
This is at our front door
Sort more of an ethereal shot of it. The formation of ice is intriguing
Those black specks are crows making their way to roost
I really like the dried flowers in winter, they do give a little colour and texture that is quite lovely
And in this tree, these little "snow nests" looked super sweet
Like a snow pillow on the old nest
Yup snowman carver been at it again
The detail of this guy is brilliant
I mean all the way round
Just such a lovely sight on a dull February day
These guys are really going for the Valentines theme this year
And look at these icicles
I rather like this one
Now this is my construction guys ice carving brother in laws sculpting, in uptown Waterloo
Wowzers!
Ice angel
The detail was amazing
Golden grasses
This was down a little lane and I couldn't believe this winter colour
This just looks like a blanket pulled across the sky
This little nut hatch is fully puffed. That's cold then
Sometimes pictures beg to be taken! This has it all, sunshine, rock, autumn leaves and ice! (that surely will feature in the calendar!)
Sometimes the flakes are so huge! This snow storm was a fluffy big flaked affair
Snow carving again, with a tippy top love heart
Super cool dude. I love the picture in his glasses
So super skinny got turned into this gorgeous snow sculpture
So if you get a box this big and leave it a second! A cat will claim it but not use all of it!
I think this house (which I have taken pictures of many times) is so picturesque. I think we call that a chocolate box picture
I definitely see a love heart floating by!
In Winter any bit of colour is welcome and this pink blush as the sun sets was lovely to see
The melt continues
Some of us just are so relaxed!
This is what the snow guy did after a bit of melt. Now I call that clever!
One evening I saw all these crows, readying for roosting
They were everywhere
As the sun set the next night, there they were again. See in the center of the picture, all the black blobs in branches....that's crows!
Bella's ear and Archie too
Seriously, she doesn't fit here! Try telling her that
OMG it's coming, you all know what these buckets mean. That's right. Spring will come here soon and Maple Syrup buckets on trees, is the first sign
All will be well little chickadee (outside the laundry window)
