Dog Days

So the end of summer is called the 'dog days', I feel that isn't really fair, especially for here. In Canada what you get is cool mornings and evenings and the breezes turn fresher. You never think it will arrive but then all of a sudden there it is and cicadas are silent, until next summer.

As we slide into Autumn/Fall here's a glance back at the end of the summer

Here's looking at you, Mr Finch

We went to Southampton Ontario for a few days. Thinking that hot summer and be by the lake kind of a deal....well

This is what happened, rain coats and rain

Seriously these were the most inclement days of the whole month of August and we timed it well to get all of them together

This was a day out in Bruce County and heading North and East from Southampton and up towards Georgian Bay...the road was long and straight and was as far as the eye could see and the road just kept on going

It was the most amazing drive
Finally arriving at Collingwood
Nice buildings down town

Menawhile back in Southampton, we were making friends on the beach

Another stormy day

But no shortage of these guys

Yes seriously!

It is a lovely spot on Lake Huron

There was a lot of this going on

and spotting birds on the shore, these ones move super fast

But this was a great shot. As I was installed to see the sunset, billed as the best in the world, I had some time, like 4 hours to wait for it!

Super windy and fun for flying

I was worried that it would completely cloud over

Love the layers of cloud in this and the colours too

But then finally the sun descended

I got some shots

patiently waiting

And a boat rolled into view...mmm not quite what I had in mind from my beach stake out

Clear shot could be taken of the lighthouse....well all was well in the world

Truly sinking into the horizon

Love those colours

and afterwards just still doing the show

Lovely. Mission accomplished, Southampton sunset, tick!

I was out walking one afternoon back from the lake and I spied this crop of mushrooms

I thought that it looked like mushroom city

this vine also caught my eye

oh and early morning sunrise

"Are you looking at me?"

"Ok, I'll just carry on but I'm still watching you!"

Pinecone on my weeping pine, pretty darn cool
OOh foggy morning

and leaves turning

I've included these two pictures as they are examples of Ontario farmhouses

I've never seen this style anywhere, this white one is in Waterloo
and this is in the country side

Often the window above the front door has not a window but a door to no where!

also in town we have these three houses built in the same area and they are just so wee and block like. They look like lego houses. Probably 40's

They also have this style too, older and grand

But someone has a home! Note big brother looming into the shot! I'm not sure how well this situation will play out

These are also very typical style of house in my part of town
Very sweet

I always think the coloums on the porch look stunted. But I love the yellow brick on this house and porches are my favorite thing. This is probably like 1910 kind of age

lovely roses I came across. I love the greeny white

fabulous red maple leaves

Big trash day does bring some conversational pieces to the curb

Someone planted these in town along their fence, they are wonderfully cheery

as are these grasses

Morning muted colours

more whitey green

cute graffti

and conversational piece
The sofa hung about. It really was quite incongruous. Although I was caught taking a photo and the woman wanted to know if I was interested in it....

trip out of town and farmers fields are all stripey

with our favorite sausage rolls

Summer time outings often look like this

Fab old sign and ref to our lovely younger chap

There is often these picture squares on the barns too. Hard to capture as we whizz along to Lake Huron for a picnic

Barns...just love them

and rolls :)

These guys had worked at this scene...not a rest stop but more for 'big trash' pick up

These guys had literally thrown out the kitchen sink!

and as for these....couldn't believe this sign. But Canadians are quite cryptic. Good job eh!

waiting for me to open the door. Look at her expression!

This 'cat art installation' is brought to you by...

Bella cat. Can you believe it? She brings the toys out of the basket. She does this when weather is coming, they both have a two day lead on storms/ weather being mostly rain related. But Bella being a girl of particular taste, has started doing a co ordinated display. Which being a visual person myself, I appreciate enormously. These were in a perfect diagonal, lots of meerowolling would have preceded this operation. She likes to talk to you, they both do, a lot! No idea where they get that from at all...

Another fantastic morning shot
Burlington Pier. Honestly I don't need to go back here again, it is quite ugly but we found great food and actually some nice houses..
I loved this sign in the park on the water front

Burlington is on Lake Ontario and these links are definitely a nod to the cities history of heavy industry and shipping

Talk about big links! these are massive. Loved the shadow and of course the geese, just hanging out

Super houses in Burlington

Really nice top floor window

That's a novel way of making sure you find your car where you parked it! So I was rude about here but just sayin... and the drive home was wonderful. We went through escarpment country. They talk about it and now I've seen it, hilly and fab really. So maybe I'll stay quiet about Burlington being poopey, cause the drive is worth it...

This is like the picture in the Sistine chapel ceiling ...just with trees!

It's been a funny August and it came and went in a flash but we have been to the lakes and it is amazing how there are always shots to be had. I almost thought that I would have nothing to post but once again I am trying to thin down the photos to not make it quite so boring. Roll on Fall colours!
