So now we are finally here and beginning that process called settling. The findings I have so far is that in order to settle anywhere you need a routine. Now this can be very simple, grocery store and newspaper buying but doing that over and over you find that the circle widens and people do speak to you. Now that Louie has started school life is taking on a gentle small beginning and amazingly I am finding that time is being squeezed. It's stunning that grocery shopping and buying a paper can make me that busy. But we have been trying to discover our bit of the world here and it is as ever full of surprises.
There are a bunch of trails around where we live and some are nicer than others. But I saw these cat tails, or as I say bull rushes. They are an old familiar sight
We also heard many grasshoppers and I even managed to get a picture of this guy
This is the trail
Rather interesting bridge overhead
pretty flowers along the way
Grisly under bridge stuff
Hot and exhausted family
After the previous trail, it was a bit disappointing we found a slightly nicer one another day
It was at least cool in the trees. This one will be revisited. The river did seem rather far way and you are mostly on dirt paths and shady trees. I suppose this is a case of expectations. If I'd had none, this would have been fantastic. But you've seen the Isle of Man, the bar is high
But downtown Kitchener has fun colours and I saw this one day
Another thing that is coming ever so slowly like a sloth that has been sedated, is the Waterloo Tram. This is on training....but rare sightings have to be logged
That would be a Maple leaf in Canada land turning colour
A fab sunset snap
This would be the back to school boy. We are not going to discuss how I got the wrong day, instead we will focus on this day and what a bus stop with a fountain no less
This was one uptown Waterloo event. It was a buskers fair thingey. Pretty cool actually
Now in this coffee cup one morning made for me by Mr F, I see a winking person? Maybe that's just me!
This building is uptown Waterloo
I was fascinated by what was above the windows. It looks like a face right?
This is a bit graffiti that I thought was very sweet
This awesome place is Kitchener's Farmers Market and it is magic!
Another interesting place outside of town, it's salvage wood yard and cafe and lots of other things.
Inside are the most amazing finds
You would have to know what you are looking for though
But just brilliant
Even some spare stained glass
This is back in uptown Waterloo
I was talking to a lady I know here about grafitti and she told me about this one, so off I went to see if I could find it. It is pretty special
So many apple trees
Great side walk plants
Cute houses up the street
This is a great one
Bright leaved trees
Another interesting house
The gold course near my house one monring
Rather a lovely view from this persons garden
I mean look at that!
We are seeing that Autumn is coming
With misty mornings...
With that in mind we went for a journey to a lake and try and see some places before the end of the year. First on the list was Lake Huron. We drove a triangle journey to get there and pass through lots and lots of farm land. It was a blistering hot day and as you can see from the road there is a mirage!!!! Look at that shimmer
Passed some interesting machinery on the way
The fields were literally gold
This fella we had to over take, just a tad scary
Tons of red barns
Till we got to the shore of Lake Huron and Goderich. This was a fascinating mix of industrial as the grain ship loaded
Next to this lovely beach
Water amazing
Even a swing set for a quick step back into childhood for one fozard
It was perfect. Warm day and cool damp lake breeze
It was such a surprise
As was the town that is set out hexagonal from a centre
This is the centre building, court house
The buildings were so interesting
Clearly the archive
Interesting tops of buildings
and windows too
How about that for a corner lot
Great old car in the town centre
But truly a sweet small town. It seemed to be out of a film set
The lake shore was really beautiful
With lots of drift wood
Really not at all what I expected
But that was stop one
More farm land
Wind turbines
Then we arrived at Bayfield. Just wow. This place was spectacular
So much action on the lake. There were boats everywhere
Just couldn't beat that
The boys found the beach.. we will be returning here for sure
